Altamont History
Altamont Volleyball
Club was established in 2006 by Heather Lamb. Altamont is
dedicated to offering athletes an opportunity to enhance their
volleyball skills through practice and competition, in a constructive
and positive environment. Altamont strives to combine a love
of the sport with knowledge and integrity to provide a competitive
athletic experience that promotes teamwork, self-discipline,
and respect, while building friendships that unite players
across school and state lines.
In its inaugural season
Altamont fielded three teams. The 17’s team was coached
by Heather, the 16’s team was coached by Marissa Baker,
and the 15’s team was coached by Jasmine Noriega and
Heather. Each team improved their standings throughout the
season and finished much higher in the region than their initial
position. The players learned an extensive amount about volleyball
and the season was deemed successful. We received a lot of
great feedback at the end of the season and began making plans
for the 2007/2008 season.
In the 2007/2008 season
Altamont expanded to offer a 13's and 14's team in addition
to our 15's, 16's and 17's teams. We welcomed Brenda Woodsmall,
Robin Reeves, Kari Weber, Mila Iosefa, and Dennis Jow onto
our coaching staff. Each team accomplished great things throughout
the season. Some of the highlights include:
• Two top five finishes at California Kickoff
• Three flight championships at National Qualifiers
• One silver finish at the Spokane National Qualifier
• Two bronze finishes at the Far Westerns National Qualifier
• One flight championship at the Far Westerns National
Qualifier
• All five teams finished above their starting placement
within the league
• One divisional championship at Power League Regionals
• One divisional championship at Bay View Classic
For the 2008/2009
club season Altamont will continue to offer five teams in
the following age divisions: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17/18. After
two strong preliminary seasons, we are primed for another
break through and are eagerly looking forward to another fantastic
season full of success. Once again we received some valuable
parent and player feedback and will be making some minor adjustments
to further advance our programs. I hope you will join Altamont
Volleyball Club for our tryouts at the beginning of November
so you can be a part of our future success.he beginning of

Summer
Fun
This summer we had
over 30 players representing Altamont at a minimum of 15 different
volleyball camps. Some of these camps included UC Berkeley,
USC, St. Mary's, UOP, UCLA, Stanford, Long Beach State, USA
High Performance, as well as many local and high school camps.
Of course many of our
players also made time for some summer fun with family outside
of the gym. As a club we visited Cancun, Italy, Europe, Canada,
Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming, Utah, Boston,
Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Lake Almanor, Lake Berryessa,
Lake Shasta, Lake Tahoe, and of course Disneyland. |

Doubles
in the Park
Altamont aquired
a couple of outdoor nets midway through the season and put
on several impromptu 'Doubles in the Park' days. We had a
great turnout considering the last minute nature of these
events. Next year look to enjoy many more 'Doubles in the
Park' days as well as some Altamont sponsored outdoor tournaments.

Up Heather
Q: I am struggling
to pass well on serve receive. What tips can you offer me
to help me be a more consistent passer?
A: The most important
thing about passing is to be stopped before you contact the
ball. If you are in motion then you are destined to be inconsistent.
Here are a few other tips which should help you become a more
consistent passer:
- Be STOPPED when you
pass
- Wrists
and thumbs together
- Feet at least shoulder
width apart with your right foot slightly forward and your
knees bent
- Straight and simple
- put your arms together with your elbows straight and hands
down
- Face the ball and
angle your platform (arms)
- Keep your arms away
from your body
- Most of all have confidence
in your abilities
- Here are some common
problems
o Lazy feet – no movement
o Knees are not bent – bending at waist
o Bent elbows
o Arms are too close or too far away

Coaches
Corner
Confidence is always
something every coach has to deal with throughout a season.
Here is a poem I like to share with my teams:
Believe the ball will
come to you,
believe your pass prevails,
believe your serve will hit the court,
and believe teamwork never fails.
Believe in staying on
your toes,
believe in giving it your all,
believe that quickness wins the game,
and never be afraid to fall.
Believe you can do better,
that with each point must come more,
believe that when a team unites,
they will never do less than soar!
Believe in your team
most of all,
and for everything they do,
but before you can believe in anything,
you must believe in YOU!!
